What your Mother Knows About Inbound Marketing that you Don't.

Would you want to be marketed to the way you are currently marketing to your customers?

Mom knows bestIt seems a little too simplistic, I get it.

After all, today’s marketing is supposed to be all about funnels, metrics, A/B testing, keywords, SEO, targeting, Google, likes, shares, and follows. It’s a little mind-blowing.

Suddenly we have access to the whole damned world, all at once. To a modern-day marketer it can seem impossible to break through and make the connections necessary for delivering would-be customers what they want…the amazing product, service, or information you have worked your tail off to bring to market.

But here’s the intriguing thing most marketers have totally overlooked.

People want to be talked to like human beings, they crave thoughtful interactions with the brands they are spending their hard-earned money buying from, they want to be treated no differently than you do.

Think about the last experience you had with a company that blew your mind in a positive way.

Maybe it was a restaurant that pleasantly surprised you by remembering that you like your steak medium-rare. Maybe it was the corner coffee shop that you visit every day having your “extra large cream only” ready for you before you get to the counter to check out. Maybe it’s the real estate agent who gives you a call before a property that is exactly what you are looking for goes on the market.

In the past, these are the types of little things you would probably tell your immediate friends about. Maybe they would use the same agent the next time they were selling their house or stop in at the restaurant you recommended. But today, things have begun to change.

Instead of telling your husband or wife about this experience, you might hop onto twitter and tell your 1000 followers. Maybe you would write a blog post that is read by 1000 people. Our reach is unprecedented today, and so is that of your customers.

The amazing thing is that the acts that prompted your glowing endorsement cost virtually nothing at all. It simply took a little bit of the “golden rule” being put to practice for these companies to stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Very suddenly, the way people will tolerate being marketed to online has righted itself.

Like a relationship that has run its course, people are no longer readily looking past the shortcomings of the companies that communicate with them online, nor are they blinded by the “newness” of the way business is done on the web. People want to be treated like the individual that they are, to be respected by those they spend their money with.

This is a decidedly “old school” way of doing business, one that reeks of the “good old days,” and your business better be prepared to roll back the customer service “clock.”

Throughout the 30-Days to Better Inbound Marketing course, we will be laying out the groundwork for you to do just that. Using the modern-day tools that you will need to master to best do business into the foreseeable future.

So, buckle up…it’s time we do a little time travel.
