Be Careful What You Click on Facebook – It May Ruin Your Online Reputation

As a small business owner, you carefully guard your online reputation. You devote large amounts of time to maintaining your Facebook and Twitter accounts and you wouldn’t dream of posting anything the slightest bit unprofessional. Sure, you may follow the goings-on of the Kardashians avidly in your spare time, but why would you post about it on your business account?

10 Old SEO Methods You Need to Stop

I'm proud to say that I've never been responsible for a site that has been punished by any of the Google Panda/Penguin updates.

I've seen my fair share of Google fallout though, usually brought forth by someone after they've seen their traffic tank. They don't know what happened, why, or much less how to fix it.

Truth be told, I'm surprised by how often I've been presented with this scenario. Every single time it's boiled down to using bad SEO or outdated SEO tactics that they consider tried and true but are no longer valid.

Here are 10 old SEO methods that I've seen come across my desk in the past two weeks and how you can do better.

Email Marketing Tip: Write Like You’re Speaking…On Stage.

Once in a while, you encounter someone out of nowhere who impresses far beyond your expectations, and you remember what they said for a long time.

Months ago, in the little town ofBethlehem,Pennsylvania, a poised young fireball did just that. She marched up to the stage at a recent conference and laid out her speech, insightful point after well-articulated point. Her co-speakers were just as dazzling; they spoke with conviction, clarity and smiles. I still remember how enthralled the audience was.

Now, let’s talk about you.

54 Quotes from Startup Leaders on How to Improve Conversions

Large and small companies alike invest a lot of time and money working on improving their conversion rates. And as we all know, there are countless “experts” and websites all trying to sell you their advice on how to improve conversions.

In this blog post, I'm going to take a different spin on this conversion topic...

I surveyed 54 companies and asked each of them one question:

"What is the one thing that you did that had the strongest positive impact on conversions?"

Google Buys Newspaper Ad to Show Why Newspaper Ads Don’t Work

Here’s a nice bit of multi-faceted irony for you: On Thursday, Canada’s Globe and Mail newspaper ran a print ad for Google’s (directly competitive) search advertising business.

“You know who needs a haircut? People searching for a haircut,” the ad reads. “Maybe that’s why ads on Google work.”

What the Highest Converting Websites Do Differently

Did you know that companies that take on a structured approach towards conversion optimization aretwice as likely to see a large increase in sales?

Given this, you’d think more companies would test and run experiments. Yet 61% of companies do less than 5 tests per month.

My gut tells me the reason for this is MOST companies are too caught up in the “business as usual syndrome”, and they rarely take a second to stop and think about really focusing on conversion optimization.

10 Reasons Why Your Content Doesn’t Attract Links

So we have all heard time and time again, “to attract links you need to build great content”. But very few actually talk about what good content looks like. That’s because good content can come in many different forms. But bad content (that doesn’t attract links) usually follows some of the same patterns. Below are 10 reasons why your content might not be attracting links.
