A Students Smart Microsoft Re-branding is Better than the Real Thing

A YOUNG DESIGN STUDENT NAMED ANDREWKIMHAS REBRANDED THE COMPUTING GIANT, UNITING THEIR PRODUCT LINES UNDER A SINGLE VISUAL IDENTITY.

Kim proposes something called “the slate,” a parallelogram inspired by the windows of corporate towers (“windows in the metropolis never look like four squares,” he explains). The slate can be adapted for any of Microsoft’s product lines: At its simplest, it’s infilled with constellations and cityscapes. For Office, it becomes more of a banner, riffing off past iterations of Office branding. The idea is to unify the company’s diverse products under one simple, oblique mark.

Brand Logos: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

When it comes to your business' branding strategy, establishing your company's logo is one of the most critical tasks. Your logo will be pervasive throughout all of your marketing campaigns, and it's one of the most prominent branding elements that people will think of when someone mentions your company. Your brand's logo should be memorable, versatile, and consistent, all the while giving your audience a sense of what your brand is all about. Unfortunately, many companies haven't exactly done a great job of keeping those goals in mind when establishing their logo, learning the hard way what it takes to create a positive brand experience through their logo.

Want to Write Better Content? Listen to your 6th Grade Teacher.

Sixth grade was more important than you think — even if you did spend most of your time pegging people with dodgeballs.

You definitely learned some important writing skills in middle school that you should try to resurrect from the recesses of your mind. Even though junior high English lessons were basic, they formed the foundations for clear, concise, interesting writing skills that you continue to develop with every sentence you craft.

But in case you took one too many dodgeballs to the head (or you already have enough on your plate to remember), here’s a friendly reminder about some of those super important, fundamental rules that tend to slip our minds.

10 Brands with Website Designs that Nail Both Form and Function.

A company's website is one of its most important assets. If a lead or customer comes to your website and it looks like you didn't put a lot of time into making it attractive, they may leave the site. Even more important, however, is a website's functionality; if your website is beautiful but customers are unable to find what they're looking for, you can bet your buttons (pun intended) they'll click away from your site in a heartbeat.

How to Choose the Right Social Marketing Platform

The best way to determine what social categories and tools you company should utilize is to look at what companies like Salesforce.com and Oracle are investing in. Both companies have identified and invested in three main categories of social technology: social media management, social media monitoring, and social infrastructure. By examining what these categories look like, and what technologies matter, you can determine where to focus your business resources.

Who actually “Owns” your Website…and Why?

Getting the Most Out of This Post: print out every single page of your website and tape it all up on a huge wall in your office or lay it out on the floor. Bring together key stakeholders from every department in your company and give them post-it notes. Ask them to place a post it on every page that drives a business outcome they feel/are responsible for.
